According to the researchers, the subjects’ theories were “virtually intact," which strongly supported the hypothesis that even after initial evidence was shown, which disproved the basis for their beliefs, people still will not change their minds about those beliefs.

Confirmation Bias

Confirmation bias is a person’s tendency to accept information that confirms their views or prejudices while ignoring or rejecting contradicting information. This prevents them from seeing things objectively.

In their book Enigma of Reason, Hugo Mercier and Daniel Sperber refer to this as “myside bias."
